The internet made me do it

post these instructions with your picture."

Usually I would never put such a crap picture of my self on t'internet, but it seems like it would be against the spirit of the thing, whatever it is, to worry about that, so there you go.

I volunteered at Biz-Art today, the new little shop at the Forest. It was kind of fun, but we're not getting nearly enough people through there yet. Much more promotion required - hopefully they'll've hatched some good plans on this front at the meeting about it that took place just after I left. I was able to make six little sculptures out of air-drying clay during the day, and sold one, so that's pretty good really.

All in all, probably not as much fun as volunteering at the cafe, which I've done twice now - Monday and last Thursday. I feel like I've learnt a lot doing that, and you get to meet some cool people.

In other news, my brother's short film about feedback loops and climate change (which is really very good) has been doing well garnering internet fame, with more than 2,500 visitors yesterday, only a few days after it really launched. Though the flow slackened off today, I'm sure it'll pick up again.

I still don't have a job. This is bugging me.

Creations Unpacked

I finally took a box of my old ceramic clay creations up to Edinburgh, from my parents' place in London where they've mostly just been clutter for the last few years.

I still miss working with actual clay, very much sometimes. Having these guys up here reminds me how much I enjoy it, and just how different it is from polymer clay or epoxy putty. I really must sort out some way of making and firing sculptures up here, whether the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop (which didn't quite work out for me when I joined it a couple of years ago) or somewhere else entirely. There are probably places I could go in Glasgow, or even Paisley, aren't there?

I'm going to try selling some of these, I think; see if people are willing to pay for them something like as much they're worth to me. That varies enormously, if anyone's wondering - some of these are nowhere near my best work and I'd let them go for a tenner or less. My very favourites, on the other hand, are not going to be leaving my hands for less than about a hundred quid.

On another related note, I have a box of unfired sculptures in London, left over from the time my local craft centre had to shut down about four years ago. Many of them are slightly broken, but they shouldn't be too hard to repair. However, I would need a one-off use of a kiln and I still have no idea how to arrange such a thing. Anyone got any suggestions?

There are some more new photos of old ceramic sculptures here (also some old ones).

I've just made my first mood theme, consisting of my polymer clay critters (see also this Flickr set). I'm fairly pleased with it, but I'd be very glad of any feedback at all...

Thanks!

My name's Fergus, and I am a blog-creation addict.

I've recently made a new blog about sculpture and polymer clay related things. So far I've made three entries: How I Make Cats, Different Kinds of Polymer Clay and Photographing Small Sculptures. [info]sharq suggests I should add example photos to the latter, and I figure he's right, so I'll probably do that at some point.

Feedback on design and whatnot is always welcome... I'm not quite finished with it, but I reckon I'm about 90% of the way there.

Atom feed, should anyone be in the mood to syndicate it or whatever: http://www.oolong.co.uk/zoo/?feed=atom

Incidentally, does anyone have any experience in porting a WordPress blog from one server to another? I want to move my other WP blogs over to oolong.co.uk, but I can't figure out why I'm getting syntax errors when I export the database (or the relevant tables) from the old server, and try to import it to the new one, using phpMyAdmin at both ends.
